Blended First Aid at Work

Our 18hr First Aid at Work is accredited by FAIB. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to confidently administer a range of first aid techniques, from minor injuries and illnesses to dealing with emergency life threatening situations. Two days will be completed face-to-face with one of our experienced trainers and one day (6hrs) will need to be completed online prior to your practical training days.

OUTCOME 1

To understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider

1.1 Understand what First Aid is and the aims of First Aid (Unit: 1)

1.2 Understand the responsibilities of the Employer, First Aider and the need to establish consent (Unit: 1)

1.3 Describe the safe use of available equipment in a workplace e.g. a First Aid Kit (Unit: 1)

1.4 Understand the importance of preventing cross-infection to yourself and others (Unit: 1)

1.5 Understand the need for recording incidents and actions (Unit: 1)

 

OUTCOME 2

To be able to assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

2.1 Describe and demonstrate how to assess a scene including how and when to call for emergency help (Unit: 1)

2.2 To understand and demonstrate The Primary Survey (DR ABC) (Unit: 1)

 

OUTCOME 3

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty who is unconscious and not breathing normally

3.1 Understand how and when to administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - and how to safely use an AED (Unit: 1)

3.2 Identify how and when to call for help and when CPR should be stopped (Unit: 1)

3.3 Demonstrate, using a manikin, how to administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use an AED correctly, using an AED training device (Unit: 1)

3.4 Identify any difficulties that may arise during resuscitation (Unit: 1)

 

OUTCOME 4

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty who is conscious or unconscious and

breathing normally

4.1 Describe and conduct a Secondary Survey (Unit: 1)

4.2 Describe and demonstrate when and how to place a casualty into the Recovery Position (Unit: 1)

4.3 Demonstrate ongoing checks of the casualty's breathing while they are in the Recovery Position (Unit: 1)

 

OUTCOME 5

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty who is choking

5.1 Describe the signs of a partially obstructed/completely blocked airway (Unit: 1)

5.2 Demonstrate the first aid response to a casualty who is choking, using a manikin or choking vest (Unit: 1)

 

OUTCOME 6

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure

6.1 Recognise a casualty who is experiencing a seizure (Unit: 1)

6.2 Describe how to manage and treat a casualty who is experiencing a seizure (Unit: 1)

 

OUTCOME 7

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding *including

optional life-threatening bleeding

7.1 Identify the different types of bleeding and demonstrate the treatment that should be given (Unit: 1)

7.2* Describe and demonstrate the treatment of life-threatening bleeding using a tourniquet and wound packing

7.3 To be able to provide appropriate First Aid for minor injuries such as: (Unit: 1)

Small cuts, grazes and bruises Splinters

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty with a serious injury including chest injuries

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty with a minor injury including eye injuries

11.1 Recognise the symptoms of an eye injury (Unit: 2)

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty with a suspected bone, muscle or joint

injury

12.1 Recognise a suspected fracture/break, dislocation or soft tissue injury (Unit: 2)

To be able to administer First Aid to a casualty with suspected sudden poisoning

14.1 Understand how poisonous substances can enter the body and how to

identify the associated symptoms (Unit: 2)

To be able to recognise the presence of major illnesses and provide appropriate first aid

during a medical emergency

Adrenaline Auto Injector, using a training device only (Unit: 2)
